EPA Developments Impacting Oil & Gas IndustryRecent regulatory and enforcement initiatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency relating to the Clean Air Act could significantly affect natural gas and oil/products infrastructure, such as pipelines, LNG terminals, and storage projects.
Potential impacts of these initiatives include bringing previously unregulated facilities under EPA regulation, changing how emissions for an entire pipeline system (or elements of a system) are calculated and controlled, and requiring compliance with new permitting and compliance obligations for modifications and retrofits of existing pipeline and compressor station infrastructure.
Van Ness Feldman is closely following and advising clients on these developments. We have prepared a memo and accompanying matrix summarizing EPA's air and GHG regulatory agenda, and outlining the potential impacts on the natural gas industry.
