DOT&PF Reflects on Safety with Reflectorsaurus
(JUNEAU Alaska) – The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) promotes safety for school children through its Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program.
Department officials, including Reflectorsaurus (Americorps Service volunteer Lawrence Place), visited Fairbanks-area schools March 30 to discuss safety while walking or biking to school. Reflectorsaurus stresses the importance of visibility in low light situations to better allow motorists to see school children who are wearing reflective devices on their clothing.
DOT&PF offers a grant program to promote safe routes to school. Eligible recipients include state, local and regional agencies, and nonprofit organizations to help address planning, design and construction improvements in the vicinity of schools. Safe Routes to School funding is 100 percent federal.
