CVRF holds regional employee training in Bethel

ANCHORAGE, AK – Coastal Villages Region Fund recently held an employee training for 14 part-time Community Service Representatives (CSRs). The training was conducted by managers from the region on September 23 in Bethel. CVRF has also arranged a routine employee training for their regional Mechanic/Welders in Scammon Bay on Monday, October 12.
“We’ve seen regional employees grow professionally from part-time employees up to managers,” says Community Service Manager George Hooper of Tununak. “Hope grows into reality when we see our economically depressed region begin to flourish with increased opportunities for establishing good paying careers in the region.”
Employees gathered in Bethel to gain first-hand instructional training on daily operations in CVRF’s Community Service Centers (CSCs) across the region. Part-time CSRs got to learn more about office procedures such as generating awareness of CVRF programs and services, developing and maintaining community network programs, responding to requests from community members, providing administrative support for accounting and filing functions, assisting with recruitment efforts, and assisting in marine safety awareness programs.
Mechanic/Welders will gather in Scammon Bay to enhance their knowledge about daily operations such as aluminum boat repairs, customization, small engine repair, fabrication projects, soliciting shop space, and handling building maintenance.
“The Mechanic/Welders position is a skilled trade that is highly needed in our region,” said CVRF President Richard Jung of Napakiak. “Residents in each of our communities now have a reliable place to bring crucial equipment such as snowmachines, boat motors, and Toyo stoves for quality service. There are welding facilities with skilled welders to work on boats in our region, and it makes me proud to say that these skilled trades are held by local residents of our member villages.”
Coastal Villages spends over $80,000 on employee training and development every year.

CVRF operates Community Service Centers in all of its 20 member communities. CVRF has 24 full-time and 21 part-time CSR positions that are supervised by 4 Community Service Managers (CSMs). There are 18 full-time and 23 on-call M/W positions supervised by 3 Regional Managers (RMs). The 4 CSMs and 3 RMs are also based in member communities. It costs approximately $3.5 million a year to run the CSCs. During 2014, Coastal Villages’ CSRs and M/Ws were paid over $2.7 million in wages.
