BBNC Plans Event to Celebrate Inaugural Alaska Wild Salmon Day
Bristol Bay Native Corporation
ANCHORAGE, AK – Bristol Bay Native Corporation announced today that it will be hosting a public salmon bake to celebrate the first ever Alaska Wild Salmon Day state holiday on Wednesday, August 10.
HB 128, which was sponsored by Representative Bryce Edgmon (D – Dillingham) and signed into law by Governor Walker in May, designates August 10 of each year as Alaska Wild Salmon Day, to celebrate the enormous bounty that chinook, sockeye, coho, chum, and pink salmon bring to the state every year.
“Bristol Bay Native Corporation is excited to celebrate Alaska wild salmon, which has played an essential role in the economic and cultural wellbeing of the people of Bristol Bay for thousands of years,” said Jason Metrokin, president and CEO of BBNC.
Rain or shine, BBNC’s celebratory event will feature fresh Alaskan wild Bristol Bay salmon, guest speakers, and live entertainment. The event is open to the public. BBNC is also supporting partner events that will take place in Dillingham, Naknek, New Stuyahok, Nondalton, and Togiak on the same day.
“BBNC is looking forward to celebrating this iconic fish with fellow Alaskans who have enjoyed the taste of fresh salmon year after year,” said Andria Agli, vice president of shareholder & corporate relations at BBNC. “We hope folks will join us for this fun event and taste some fresh Bristol Bay salmon!”
