About Us

Alaska Business Monthly was established in 1984 and is Alaska's premier business magazine and website. Its goal is to promote economic growth in the state by providing a thorough and objective discussion and analysis of the issues and trends affecting Alaska's business sector. We feature stories about individuals, organizations, and companies that shape the Alaska economy.

Alaska Business Monthly emphasizes the importance of all enterprises, from the large multinational corporations that do business in the state to the numerous sole proprietorships. It stresses a statewide approach to business coverage with stories from all regions of the state and offers topical diversity just as broad as the Alaska economy itself.

Our Team

Jason is proudly following in his father's footsteps as Alaska Business Monthly's General Manager. Having been with ABM for 13 years prior he is familiar with the business and continuously impressed with the talented staff. One of the youngest managers in Walmart history, he supervised 40+ employees before being recruited by the Odom Corporation. While there he created statewide marketing material, covered sales routes, and helped set pricing for the state. Jason originally joined the fantastic team at ABM in 1997 as a graphic designer. Jason is a third generation Alaskan and one of the founders of Alaska's longest running comedy improv troupe, Scared Scriptless. He enjoys spending time with his amazing wife and delightful son and is passionate about kayaking, sailing, biking, camping, mountaineering, theatre, and improv.

Susan is the Managing Editor of Alaska Business Monthly magazine and akbizmag.com, each an exceptional business magazine and business website. The magazine continues to win editorial awards since she became its managing editor in 2011. She’s been instrumental in three website launches since joining the company and continues to lead the editorial team in growing the digital edition and perfecting Alaska Business Monthly’s mobile optimization. Prior to her current position, Susan was the Associate Editor of Alaska Business Monthly. Previously she was Editor for a third-party publisher. She is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and reading.

Russ joined our team in 2014, as a well-traveled, born and raised Alaskan. He has a diverse background in broadcast radio and television, marketing, and now, print journalism. Russ is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage, Journalism and Public Communications program and is working on an MBA at UAA with a social media emphasis. He also knows enough Mandarin Chinese to carry on a conversation, and has visited Taiwan multiple times. In every trip he discovers something or someplace new. He is really into live shows and music, snowboarding, and mountain biking.

Tasha joined our team in April 2012, having graduated from the University of Wyoming, where she got her BA in English with minors in Latin and Business Writing. Except for the brief detour to the Lower 48 for school, Tasha is a (mostly) life-long Alaskan, moving with her family to Anchorage at the age of seven. Tasha got her feet wet in the Alaska Business community as ABM's front desk editorial assistant. Her growing knowledge of that community has turned into a delighted interest, which makes every interview and article an exciting opportunity to learn even more: especially after being promoted to Associate Editor in early 2015.

I've been putting out fires, soothing egos & pulling off the almost impossible for well over a decade in the printing industry. I was born and raised here in Alaska, left for a few years to study in Arizona at Al Collins School of Graphic Design, then promptly ran from the heat to get back here were I felt I belonged (and wouldn't melt). What came out of a need to get my work done has grown into an enjoyment for technical troubleshooting and basic IT work (let's see a show of hands, all you people who have been held up on a project too long due to a IT department mired in molasses, put 'em up, come on, they can't see you right now). My most enjoyable leisure activities are just time spent with my wife Samantha and sons Ivan and Joseph. I have had the chance to work with so many wonderful folks throughout the years in directly related and totally unrelated fields (some of them being those poor overworked IT guys), and find myself amongst top notch company again here at Alaska Business Monthly!
