AFD Recognizes National Telecommunicators Week
For many years Public Safety Agencies have celebrated and recognized the vital role played by their dispatchers. Each year the second week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators. In 1991, Congress proclaimed it as a nationally recognized week of recognition.
The Anchorage Fire Department Communications Center celebrates this year’s National Telecommunicators week, April 13 – 19. For the Anchorage Fire Department those dedicated personnel answer all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for the Anchorage Fire Department, Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department, The Girdwood Volunteer Fire Department, Life Med Private Ambulance Service and Anchorage Safety Patrol.
The Anchorage Fire Department would like to recognize their 20 fire dispatchers that work around the clock, all year long to support the firefighters in the field and help keep them and the public safe.
The Anchorage Fire Department would like to invite you to visit the center and see the incredible work they do. The dispatchers were just recognized by the Municipality of Anchorage as work unit of the year – direct support. Additionally they recently moved back into their main center after a major renovation was completed. If you would like to schedule a visit please contact: Al Tamagni at 267-4993.
